Yearbook/Newsletter Staff

This 30-week, 1.5-hour class gives students hands-on, real-world experience in creating monthly TCT newsletters and a beautiful yearbook, and in interacting with the student body on a TCT bulletin board.  Class time will include lessons and time to work on projects to be completed at home.  Students will learn how to create projects from inception to completion.  Students will gain experience working on individual tasks and collaborating as a team to create these published media.

Students will create a monthly newsletter, the TCT Times.  Students will design each aspect of the newsletter, learning about theme, design, layout, researching, and filling in specials (calendar, class features, and fun sections to name a few).  Students work with the PTA and Student Council to ensure the newsletter and TCT bulletin board keep students informed about TCT happenings.  Students will have unique opportunities to interact with classmates and tutors, as well as documenting the school year at The Cordova Tutorial.

The TCT yearbook is completely student-made.  Students decide on theme, design, layout, and much more. Areas students will learn about include font, layout, graphic design, editing, photography basics (pixels, cropping, etc.), and the publishing process.  Students will gain marketing skills through the selling and creation of both business and senior ads.

The TCT Yearbook/Newsletter class allows students the chance to work hands-on, build responsibility and confidence, and create products that they can be proud of for years to come.  It is a great class for anyone interested in journalism, marketing, advertising, or graphic design.  For high schoolers, this class counts as an elective for 1 high school credit.

Students will receive the TCT Annual Yearbook that they helped to create for ½ price.  The supply fee will include an exclusive TCT Yearbook staff t-shirt.

Returning Yearbook Staff students class fee is $100 off ($250).

Lessons and work will be done in class, with individual projects completed at home.  Access to a computer or tablet and internet is necessary.

*It is very important that the student has reliable access to a computer or tablet at tutorials and at home.  Communication via email is also important.  Students for yearbook class need to be motivated, reliable, and able to complete assignments on time.
