Amy Maxwell

My name is Amy Maxwell, and I am truly excited to join the Cordova Tutorial team! I have been homeschooling since 2007 and am the proud mother of two homeschool graduates. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching a wide variety of classes through local homeschool co-ops—including science, geography, drama, health, personal finance, Bible, and early elementary courses. I am passionate about creating engaging, meaningful learning experiences where every child feels confident, capable, and valued.

I strive to be an intentional and encouraging presence, creating a classroom where every student feels seen and heard. My mind is always full of creative ways to organize lessons to make learning both fun and effective, as I believe a joyful environment allows students to thrive both academically and personally. My faith in Jesus is the cornerstone of my life, and it deeply influences how I teach and serve. I am especially grateful for the lessons I’ve learned through my youngest child, Jesse, who has special needs. He has taught me patience, perseverance, and the importance of celebrating every victory—lessons that guide me as I meet each of my students where they are with compassion and grace.

My commitment to family and service is shared with my husband, BJ. Married since 1997, we have built a life rooted in faith, having had the profound privilege of raising four adopted children and serving as foster parents. For over 20 years, we also walked hand in hand in ministry—a season that shaped our family and ignited my lifelong passion for encouragement.

Having lived in many parts of the country, I have a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives and teaching styles. This love of variety extends to my background in the arts, developed during my time at Union University, where I studied vocal sacred music. When I’m not in the classroom, you can often find me antiquing; in 2021, I even channeled that hobby into a small business by opening my own vintage Etsy shop.

It is truly a privilege to partner with local families in their children’s education, and I look forward to learning alongside the students at Cordova Tutorial!
