High School Spanish

In this 30-week class, students will learn Spanish in a fun, hands-on way through conversation, games, music, food, and in-class instruction. The class goal is for students to recognize, know, pronounce, and write the alphabet, numbers, and basic daily vocabulary, as well as begin learning to conjugate basic verbs, so they can carry on brief conversations in Spanish. We will also be studying Spanish-speaking countries and their cultures. Guest speakers may also visit the class who are native speakers. This class touches on both spoken and written Spanish. This class will count as 1 high school credit toward the foreign language diploma requirement.

Each week, students will spend some time on speaking/listening to Spanish as well as studying Spanish-speaking culture. Activities may include hands-on activities, verbal review, worksheets, translation, games, or other videos assigned. The app Duolingo can be used as daily practice, which is helpful for learning a new language.

Prerequisites: No other Spanish knowledge needed. Textbook and workbook will be provided. All other supplies are provided as well. Students will need a binder with tabs and notebook paper for notes and other handouts.

Class homework requirements: Weekly homework will include, but is not limited to: pages to complete in the Senderos practice workbook, preparing sentences for conversation in class, listening to or translating short paragraphs provided in class or online via Schoology, as well as quizzes and tests to be given in class.
