US Geography/Social Studies
The United States of America has a wonderful and rich history for each state! In this class we will learn all 50 states, including their capitals, as we explore the history, culture, and traditions of each state. Weekly, we will discover the godly beginning found within each state’s preamble to their constitution. We will study state specific facts, cultural/traditional customs, and any of God’s natural state wonders. It will be fun to investigate interesting facts about the state quarter series, special regional music, and more. We will also learn about the people who have helped shape our cities, states, and nation. Students completing this course should be able to identify geographic locations of state and national memorials/parks, recite all 50 states and capitals, and draw the United States.
Every child is different. Some are great at memorizing; others are fantastic artists. Class time will be productive for all students. We will use songs to help memorize states and capitals. Using Draw the U.S.A. by Kristin Draeger, we will have an easy step-by-step approach to drawing the U.S. in its entirety. The states are simple lines and shapes that will build on each other week by week. We will complete approximately 1-3 states per week for 30 weeks.
