US Government & Civics
(fall semester)
Exploring Government by Notgrass is a comprehensive high school course that provides students with a thorough introduction to the principles, structure, and function of the United States government. Students will study the foundations of American government, including the Constitution, federalism, and the separation of powers, as well as the roles of the three branches of government. The course also examines civil liberties, political parties, elections, and the responsibilities of citizenship from a constitutional and historical perspective.
In this 15-week class for grades 9-12, students will have the opportunity to watch informative videos, participate in group activities, and engage in discussion as we examine the government of our country through the lens of Christianity.
Each week, students will read one unit from Exploring Government, along with additional primary source materials from the companion text, We Hold These Truths. Students will also complete lesson review questions, unit quizzes, and comprehensive exams.
Required Materials: Exploring Government and We Hold These Truths - Available as a bundle from Notgrass here.
I will purchase the Exploring Government Quiz and Exam Book for each student and provide the necessary pages from the Exploring Government Student Review Book. Students will need a 3-ring binder with paper and dividers, plus access to the internet and Schoology.
Homework: Weekly reading of text and original documents, plus completion of weekly questions or quizzes. Possible projects and writing assignments.
