Advance Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology
I have said it before, and I will say it again, all creation is awe-inspiring, but the work of the human body, created in the very image of God, is especially jaw-dropping! This 32-week, 1.5-hour Advanced High School-level Anatomy and Physiology class will embark on the challenging but fascinating study of the human body and its functions. The class will showcase the intricacy and design of DNA and cell creation to the 11 major organ systems of the body. The text has 3 unifying themes: the relationship between physiology and anatomy, the interrelations among the organ systems, and the relationship of each organ to homeostasis. This book will provide the student with a solid foundation for understanding and appreciating the incredible living organism that is our human body.
This class will include lectures, experiments, anatomical models, dissections, and hands-on experiences of all kinds. All activities will drive home the concepts covered in the class and the text. This class will be challenging and fun. Quizzes, tests, homework assignments, and personal projects will be given and graded by the instructor. All communications, assignments, tests, quizzes, and grades will be done through Schoology.com. The prerequisite for this class is High School Biology. High School Chemistry, though helpful, is not required.
Parents, please note. Though this is a very challenging class, the material will affect all students who take it. The better you understand your body, the healthier your life can be. Students with A’s and B’s in this class will do fine in college health sciences. No matter the grade you student will learn and be inspired by the spectacular human body. Feel free to call and ask any questions you may have about this class.
Supplies provided by the instructor: All lab supplies, dissection supplies and specimens, and the textbook Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology. Provided by the student: 2-inch binder
Students must have reliable internet and printer access to attend this class.
Note this is a 32-week class
Class homework requirements: Weekly reading, completing study worksheets, lab reports, and review for tests and quizzes. I would estimate between 4-6 hours a week, depending on the student.
