Adulting 101: What Every Teen Should Know

Adulting 101 teaches real-life skills every teen needs before they need them.

  • Money

  • Jobs

  • Decision-making

  • Accountability

This high-school 30-week, 1.5-hour class is a hands-on, discussion-driven course designed to help students build the skills, habits, and mindset they need to handle real life with confidence. We will talk about money, time, responsibility, communication, decision-making, and what it really means to be independent!

And because real life is unpredictable, we also include a Survival & Emergency Skills unit—because adulthood doesn’t pause when you’re lost in the woods, stuck in a rip current, or wondering what to do when a bear, shark, or jellyfish enters the chat.

Through games, simulations, scenario challenges, and practical projects, students learn how to:
- Make better choices before the consequences show up
- Manage time, money, and responsibilities
- Communicate and solve problems
- Stay calm and think clearly in emergencies
- Handle wildlife encounters and outdoor hazards with wisdom instead of panic
- Leadership and becoming the kind of person others can rely on

Parents will love it because it builds maturity, responsibility, and real-world readiness.
Students will love it because it’s practical, engaging, and honestly kind of awesome.

We will cover topics like

Choices and consequences, Accountability, Time management, Reliability and Trust, Different ways to Budget, Credit cards and Loans, Resume writing, Paycheck and basic tax concepts, Communication, Conflict resolution, Habits, Travel planning, Leadership, Ethics, Decision making, Apartment leasing, Emergency preparedness, Short- and Long-term goals, Survival Skills, Wilderness Basics and Encounters, and more!

I have loved working with teenagers at TCT and also in student ministry at my church for 12 years. I have loved mentoring students and helping them face challenges as they mature and reach adulthood. I am so excited about this class!

Nothing additional for class is needed—all supplies are covered with the supply fee.

Students will need a 3-ring binder with paper and pockets.

Homework will be light and might include research, reading articles, Schoology assignments, or working on a project. Homework should only take 30 minutes a couple of days a week.
